Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez is not ruling out the possibility of a fall trilogy fight with career rival, Gennadiy Golovkin.

In 2017, Canelo fought Golovkin to a controversial twelve round split draw at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

One year later, at the same venue, Canelo won a hard-fought twelve round majority decision to hand Golovkin his first career defeat.

Both boxers have worked with streaming service DAZN for the last few years.

DAZN is extremely interested in matching them against each other in a trilogy fight.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic put a stop to any scenario of that fight taking place in 2020.

There is a realistic possibility of that trilogy coming off in the fall, during Mexican Independence Day weekend in September.

At the moment, Canelo holds the WBC, WBA world titles at super middleweight and has no interest in dropping down.

Golovkin, who holds the IBF title at middleweight, would have to move up to 168-pounds to make the third fight.

Canelo is scheduled to return to the ring on February 27, in a mandatory defense against Avni Yildirim in Miami, Florida.

If he wins, Canelo will then likely face WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders in a three belt unification on May 8th.

Regarding a potential Golovkin trilogy in the fall, Canelo told TUDN that "everything is possible."

Canelo, in comparison to other top level fighters, has the most impressive record of opponents.

While some view Golovkin as being the biggest victory of his career, Canelo has a much different opinion on the matter.

"Without a doubt, the most important was when I fought against Miguel Cotto. When I beat Miguel Cotto... that was the most important," Canelo said.

Canelo boxed his way to a twelve round decision over Cotto on November 21, 2015, with the vacant world middleweight title of the World Boxing Council at stake, at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The scores were 118-110, 119-109 and 117-111 for Canelo.
