Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is targeting a bantamweight clash between WBO world champion Zolani Tete and challenger Ryan Burnett.
Both fighters were in the World Boxing Super Series bantamweight tournament and both got knocked off due to injury.
Burnett, who owned the WBA world title, suffered an injury during his fight with Nonito Donaire. And Tete withdrew from a semi-final bout with Donaire, who is now heading to the finals of the tournament.
Burnett, after parting ways with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, signed a promotional agreement with Arum's company.
Tete is handled by promoter Frank Warren on the UK.
The fight has been talked about for some time, but never became a reality because Burnett and Tete were handled by rival promotional factions.
Arum will have no problems at all when it comes to reaching a deal for a Tete vs. Burnett clash.
“[Warren] has Tete he’d like to put Burnett in with. I’d love to do that fight. We have absolutely no compunction to show fights in the afternoon in the United States, so that they can be in the evening in the UK,” Arum said.
Warren, who has developed a close relationship with Arum through their co-promotional agreements with Tyson Fury and Carl Frampton, added: “I’d love to do that fight. Zolani would love to do that fight.
“That’s why he went into that tournament (the WBSS, which Burnett withdrew from through injury). That’s a great fight for Tete; I fancy my man.”
