Zak Chelli Beats Jimmy Smith, Grabs Southern Area Belt

By Elliot Foster

Zak Chelli captured a title in just his seventh fight.

The Fulham super-middleweight was composed as he claimed a shutout victory over Jimmy Smith at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London.

Chelli dropped his opponent in the eighth, exclusively live on BT Sport, as part of the supporting cast to Daniel Dubois' heavyweight clash against Richard Lartey.

But after Smith doing well to see out the round, he saw out the fight.

However, his spells of success throughout were fruitless as he was on the wrong end of a 100-89 verdict from the third man Bob Williams.

Chelli moves on to 8-0, while Smith suffers his second setback in the paid code.

Meanwhile, Umar Sadiq continued on the comeback trail after his sole setback against Zak Chelli in October and, right from the first bell, looked to have far too much in his armoury for Sheffield’s Chris Dutton, who retired at the end of the second round, while 22-year-old Belfast talent Caoimhin Agyarko secured a stoppage against Martin Kabrihl as the referee called a halt to proceedings after one minute and 20 seconds of the third.

Hamzah Sheeraz, the 19-year-old from Ilford, continued his impressive run as he moved to 8-0. He was coming off a first-round stoppage win over Rod Douglas last time out and took just a little longer to get rid of his Slovakian visitor in the shape of Ladislav Nemeth. Sheeraz was dominant over Nemeth before knocking him out after 65 seconds of the second round.

That pattern continued as there were stoppage wins for new Queensberry signing Shakiel Thompson, who ousted Nelson Altamirano after just 61 seconds, as well as Chris Bourke and WBO European super-featherweight champion Archie Sharp.

And Alfie Price, alongside Denzel Bentley and Mohammad Bilal Ali, was among those who also recorded victory.
