This past Saturday in Los Angeles, bantamweight Yonnhy Perez suffered the second straight defeat of his career. Vic Darchinyan knocked him down and dominated most of the action in their short lived fight. Perez suffered a bad cut from a clash of heads in the fifth round. One look at the cut and the ringside physician advised the referee to stop the fight. The referee agreed and stopped the action, which sent the fight to the scorecards and gave the Darchinyan a technical decision win.

"I wanted to continue. The referee made the final decision and I have to respect that. That's his job, to protect the fighter. That's his decision and the doctor's decision," Perez told Ernest Gabion of BoxingScene.com. "Vic's a strong fighter but the fight was stopped because of the cut. I started landing punches. I was starting to come on. I was picking it up but what can I do about the cut? There is nothing that I can do about, but I wanted to continue."
