Anthony Yarde apparently has little desire to coast after his grueling donnybrook in his last fight.
The British, 175-pound contender put up a spirited effort against unified champion Artur Beterbiev of Russia a couple of weeks ago in London but he ultimately came up short, getting stopped in the eighth round after this corner threw in the towel.
It was the second time of Yarde’s career that he competed for a title. The first time, also a stoppage loss, came against Sergey Kovalev, who knocked Yarde out in the 11th round in 2019.
In a recent interview, Yarde offered some thoughts on the next steps of his career and it is clear that his confidence has not been dented. He stated—point blank—that he wants a rematch with the 38-year-old Beterbiev, who has knocked out every single one of his 19 opponents.
“In terms of fights going forward in stuff—put me back in with Beterbiev,” Yarde told TalkSport.“I want a rematch, I want to get back in that mix. I’m eager to, I’m thriving towards that. I don’t care who I fight.
A rematch with Beterbiev probably would not happen anytime soon, but Yarde also floated a few other names he would like to fight, including his highly regarded compatriot Joshua Buatsi, WBA 175-pound titlist Dmitry Bivol, and, even, Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed 168-pound champion.
“The fight with Joshua Buatsi, I love that fight,” Yarde said.
“Whoever’s got all the belts – I love them fights as well,” Yarde continued. “Dmitry Bivol: I wanna experience fighting Bivol before he retires. …Canelo: all these kind of names, I wanna be in there with these people. Because I feel like, me, on my day, if I get my tactics right and things go my way, I have the ability to beat all these guys.”
