Puerto Rican welterweight Xander Zayas enjoyed very little of the Christmas festivities. He was staying away from traditional cakes since he was training for his third engagement in the ring.
The 17-year-old is on the agenda to be part of the upcoming card being staged at the Etess Arena of Hard Rock Live on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The card will be headlined by a light heavyweight clash between Jesse Hart and Joe Smith Jr.
"Christmas was at camp and training hard for January 11," said the boxer from Sunrise, Florida to Carlos Gonzalez.
Zayas will face Corey Champion (1-1, 1 KO) with a four round distance set. The brothers Joseph and Jeremy Adorno will participate on the same function for their respective bouts. They will be part of the preliminary attractions that will be broadcast on ESPN+.
"I have kept training camp after camp without having an extended rest and it has done me good," he said.
Zayas (2-0, 2 KO) is coming off a knockout victory in the first round last November in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both fights have been won in the same way.
“I do not enter the ring with the mentality of knocking out the opponent. I go with the mentality of achieving victory. The strategy of the first two was to throw combinations and work the jab. In a short time I have achieved it and hopefully the next fight will be a little longer,” he said. "Expect the best of me to get the victory for Puerto Rico and for me."
