Willie Monroe Jr.: record, next fight and profile →
As Willie Monroe Jr. challenges WBO middleweight belt-holder, Billy Joe Saunders, at the Copper Box Arena in England, American boxing fans will have a chance to see this match-up live on Saturday.
Dominic Ingle believes Billy Joe Saunders will show this weekend why he’s the man to topple middleweight superstars Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin. The Hatfield traveller has been whipped into shape by new trainer Ingle for Saturday’s WBO world title defence against Willie Monroe Jr at London’s Copper Box Arena.
Willie Monroe Jnr has told Billy Joe Saunders he is too little-known in America to be spoken of as an opponent for the winner of Saturday's super-fight between Gennady Golovkin and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. WBO middleweight champion Saunders on Saturday at London's Copper Box Arena makes the second defence of his title against American Munroe, hours before their rivals meet at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena in what is expected to be the fight of the year.
Billy Joe Saunders insists he would consider a move to super-middleweight if he fails to nail a showdown with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin. Saunders, 28, makes the second defence of his WBO middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr at London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday night, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.
Willie Monroe Jr. wants another shot at Gennady Golovkin. If Monroe can beat Billy Joe Saunders to win the WBO middleweight title Saturday in London, that rematch against Golovkin is much more likely to take place if Golovkin conquers Canelo Alvarez in their showdown Saturday night in Las Vegas. As much as Monroe wants a chance to avenge his sixth-round technical knockout loss to Golovkin in May 2015, the middleweight contender doesn’t think Golovkin will beat Alvarez.

Billy Joe Saunders is in the best shape of his career under Dominic Ingle for his September 16th World title defence. After some fitness issues in his last fight the Hertfordshire native has turned things around and is ripped and ready for ‘El Mongoose’. Willie Monroe Jr however is one of the few that isn’t impressed with Saunders’ new found physique. Posting on Instagram, the former World title challenger argued: “[It] really doesn't matter how good of shape a man can get into in 12 weeks when compared to a man who lives the ‘in-shape’ life.”

Willie Monroe Jr's camp recently posted a controversial photo showing the Middleweight contender standing over a reported Light-Heavyweight, who he’d knocked out during sparring. New Yorker Monroe takes on undefeated WBO Middleweight World Champion Billy Joe Saunders at London's Copper Box Arena on September 16, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.
Former Welterweight World Champion Kell Brook has joined Billy Joe Saunders in his Fuerteventura training camp to face Willie Monroe Jr on September 16th. Brook is also trained by Dominic Ingle, who recently teamed up with Saunders as he prepares for the second defence of his WBO World Middleweight Title. The Hatfield southpaw hopes to face the winner of Canelo Alvarez v Gennady Golovkin, who square off in Las Vegas just a few hours after Saunders' bout at the Copper Box Arena.
