Super middleweight prospect Donovan "Da Bomb" George (20-1-1, 17 KOs) isn't looking for an easy road back to the win column.

Coming off his first career defeat, the talented Chicagoan will face undefeated Cornelius White (16-0, 15 KOs) of Houston, Texas at Bally's Atlantic City this Friday night and televised live on Showtime's Sho-Box.

The showdown with White will be George's third straight nationally televised fight. He won a unanimous decision over Ghana's Osumanu Adama last April, and then last July on ESPN2, lost a seventh round technical decision to Francisco Sierra for the vacant WBO NABO super middleweight title - a fight in which he was down once.

"Donovan thrives on this kind of pressure," explained his co-promoter, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing (along with Domenic Pesoli of 8 Count Productions). "We asked him if he wanted to take a couple tune-ups before jumping back into the world-class level and he wouldn't even consider it. He feels like what happened with Sierra was just a bad night and he wants to get right back in the mix."

While White hasn't faced anyone the caliber of "Da Bomb" he comes in with an excellent record and a good amateur pedigree, which makes him an x factor in the fight. "You never know with a guy like this," continued Margules. "He's fought a number of guys with losing records, but he's also done what you're supposed to do with opponents like that. He knocked all but one of them out and has never gone past four rounds. It's a dangerous fight and Donovan deserves tremendous credit for taking it."

A victory, says Margules, will right the ship for George, who was on the fast track to a money showdown before coming in flat against Sierra. "This victory will put the kid right back on schedule for a world title fight. He's a good looking kid, the son of a Chicago policeman with an exciting style. It shows what he's made of that he's so eager to get back into a tough fight."

Minnesota fan favorite Phil Williams recently launched a training camp in preparation for his rematch with “Golden” Caleb Truax of Osseo. Williams and Truax battled to a ten round draw last April in St. Paul and a deal was recently struck to bring the rematch to Grand Casino Hinckley at a catch weight of 162 lbs on February 26.

“I’m all about stepping up and fighting the best. We have some unfinished business so I’m excited to get in there and settle it” The Minneapolis native Williams noted.

Truax has picked up two victories in the time since the first meeting, defeating veterans Jonathan Reid, and former Williams foe Antwun Echols. Williams had his only scheduled bout during that period changed to an exhibition bout with Matt Vanda in December.

“The first fight was tightly contested, and we could debate on the scorecards all day long, but it’s in the books as a draw. I think the lingering question was what would have happened had there been a round eleven, and fans are going to get their eleventh round on February 26” said Brett Mauren, an advisor to team Williams.

The Williams-Truax II undercard will feature fighters from both Midwest Sports Council and Seconds Out Promotions. Tickets are available at grandcasinomn.com.
