Dillian Whyte just wants Tyson Fury to make it make sense.
In a recent interview, the Jamaican-born, London-based Whyte called out Fury for being inconsistent with his words, saying that by constantly belittling him, the Manchester native is diminishing his own achievements.
The 34-year-old Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) and 33-year-old Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) are set to face each other this Saturday, April 23, at Wembley Stadium in London, where 94,000 people are expected to gather to see the British countrymen battle for Fury’s WBC heavyweight title.
“If I’m a bum and I’m a dosser, what does beating me show the world how great he is?” Whyte told BT Sport. “Everything thing he says is a contradiction. That’s why I said his mouth is like a toilet. He says I’m a nobody, I’m an average heavyweight, I’m a bum, I’m slow-footed, I can’t punch.
“But then he says he’s gonna beat me and show the world how great he is. What does beating me show the world how great he is? I’m a nobody. I’m just an ant that’s going in there to be paid, basically that’s what he’s saying.”
Part of Whyte’s objections, however, can be seen as a result of his refusing to partake in the initial publicity activities for the fight, thus forcing Fury to lay it on thicker than usual. Whyte stood up Manchester's Fury at the initial press conference, rejected media requests, and has stayed silent on social media until last week.
Whyte, who conducted his training camp out of Portugal, was also a no-show for the open workout earlier this week in London, although Fury promoter Frank Warren has said he was told it was because of a delay in his flight.
“Why does he do a 12-week spartan training camp for me?,” Whyte said of Fury, continuing with his facetious argument. “I’m a nobody. You’re the greatest of all time. You’re the new six-foot-nine Muahmmad Ali, Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier, George Foreman all in one.
“Why are you training hard for me? I’m a nobody. If I was fighting a nobody, I wouldn’t even train. You’re six-foot-ten, you’re 20 stones, you’re the greatest, you’re the greatest, you’re the most colorful, prettiest girl, so why are you training so hard for a dosser?”
