“I spoke today on the phone with the Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, Felix Arturo Gonzalez Canto, to convey my own and the WBC’s feelings of solidarity, as well as the organization’s full support, as modest as it may be.

“The WBC is sending a trailer with drinkable water to the city of Cancun to be distributed among the victims by DIF, the State Office responsible for the Mexican families welfare. This is a modest help but is the WBC’s contribution to other people’s efforts to support the population of the region devastated by hurricane Wilma.

The WBC ratified to the Governor Don Felix Gonzalez that the WBC will celebrate “The Night of Champions” in Cancun  that had originally been scheduled for December 6, but which will be postponed to be part of the celebration of the “re-birth” of Cancun and the entire region, which along with the Night of Champions - the most significant event in the entire history of international boxing - will be of great impact around the world, showing everybody that Cancun lives and is stronger than ever, with the help of all Mexican people and the humble support from the WBC.

“I am trying to get in contact with the Mayor of Cancun, Don Francisco Alor Quezada, to inform him about the drinkable water sent and to ratify to him as well the celebration of “The Night of Champions” in Cancun.

“We would also like to announce that the World Boxing Council also sent water to the victims of the tsunami, and created a world fund through the International Red Cross to help the victims of the hurricanes in New Orleans and the nearby regions in the United States.”
