The health emergency for the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of boxing events worldwide in an unprecedented manner. In this era, the sport has never faced a scenario of this magnitude, which requires urgent and decisive action.
World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaimán - in the first “Virtual Martes de Cafe” - gave his thoughts on the worldwide coronavirus crisis:
“I see the COVID-19 coronavirus as a cowardly virus that attacks the elderly and vulnerable people. We must take care of our elderly people, uncles, parents and grandparents. The most important thing is to prevent its spread," Sulaiman said.
"We must adjust and cooperate with the international and national restrictions. It is very important to curb the spread of the virus. This is something that there is no point in ignoring. We must understand that we all have to do our part, have patience, peace of mind, and let the experts do their thing.
“We must promote the measures that one can take as an individual, for prevention and not to fall into despair. It is fundamentally important to eat healthy food, especially vegetables and fruits, gargle with vinegar, be very hygienic, exercise, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, avoid crowded places, follow the recommendations of the authorities and above all…to remain calm.
“We are confident that when the global crisis subsides, there will be many activations and a multitude of initiatives to help the affected communities around the world.”
