Frank Warren, promoter for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, says a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder is likely to be next.
Wilder and Fury fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in December 2018.
On Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Fury set the record straight when he dropped Wilder twice and stopped him in the seventh round to capture the WBC title.
There is a contractual clause which allows Wilder the option to call for an immediate third fight. The trilogy fight would take place in the summer, likely in June or July.
Wilder has 30 days to exercise the option or be left out in the cold as Anthony Joshua holds the four remaining belts in the weight class.
According to Warren, Wilder's co-manager Shelly Finkel called him on Sunday morning to let him know that a trilogy fight was coming.
"Shelly Finkel rang me the morning after the fight to tell me they would probably invoke the immediate rematch," Warren told Metro.co.uk. "So that’s where we’re at right now. I’m assuming that the trilogy fight is going ahead."
If Wilder takes a pass on the trilogy fight, then Fury could face Joshua in a massive unification by the end of the year or go in the direction of making a mandatory defense against Dillian Whyte.
