LONDON (AP) - Frank Warren is taking legal action against IBF light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton to stop him fighting for another promoter.

Warren promoted the unbeaten British fighter's title-winning bout against Kostya Tszyu in Manchester on June 5, and says he has Hatton tied to a three-fight deal.

But Hatton believes he is now a free agent and reportedly has contacted Sheffield promoter Dennis Hobson with a view to a title defense in November.

Warren told the London Stock Exchange on Monday he has begun legal action against the champion.

"Procedures were issued by Sports Network against Richard Hatton and others seeking a declaration that Hatton remains under contract with Sports Network for a further three fights and an injunction preventing him from fighting in breach of that contract," Warren said in a statement.

"The company intends to progress its claims vigorously in order to fully protect its position."
