Frank Warren, the lead promoter for Tyson Fury, does not buy the claim that IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO Anthony Joshua is pushing to face his two biggest rivals at the weight.
Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, have stated in several interviews that they have been unable to land Fury or WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Warren expects Wilder and Fury, who fought to a controversial draw in December, to fight each other by February 2020.
Wilder rejected a deal from DAZN worth over $100 million, and is scheduled to fight on May 18th against Dominic Breazeale at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
"I believe Wilder rejected DAZN because Showtime bettered their offer and said he could have a couple of fights before a big one. It is what it is," Warren told Metro UK.
"What makes me laugh is they talk like Joshua has been pushing to make these fights, but it’s only when everyone is tied up they’re trying to make these fights. Wilder and Fury will meet again, we’re working on it. I think February 2020 is probably the latest it’ll happen."
Fury is back on June 15th, against Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas.
And Joshua will face late replacement Andy Ruiz on June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Ruiz replaces Jarrell Miller, who tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in three separate tests.
"Jarrell Miller got a six-month suspension from the WBA. What’s that all about? Fighters only fight twice a year. You could take the drug in February because you’re not fighting until September and your ban would be up by then. It’s wrong. What’s the point of drug testing if at the end of the day a fighter will only face getting his wrist slapped if he fails?," Warren said.
"I feel for Anthony Joshua. It took a long time to find a replacement and that’s because everyone wanted more money to step up at late notice. Andy Ruiz Jr is the best they can do in the circumstances. He’s quite fast, even though he doesn’t look the part. I think Joshua is a big favourite and they probably chose Ruiz because he’s built similarly to Miller. Money probably played a big part too. They chased Luis Ortiz, but he wants to wait for Deontay Wilder."
