Walter Matthysse Jr. Positive For COVID-19, Pro Debut Pushed Back

Chubut boxer Walter Matthysse Jr, and his trainer and uncle Mario Narváes, have tested positive for coronavirus.

For this reason, the boxer has been pulled from what would have been his pro debut, scheduled to take place this coming Saturday night at the Coliseu Boxing Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with TyC Sports televising the action.

Matthysse Jr. is the son of retired boxer Walter Matthysse and nephew of feared puncher Lucas Matthysse.

Matthysse Jr. was going to make his professional debut against undefeated local Fernando Messias (2-0, 1 KO). Now he will have to carry out an obligatory two-week quarantine and, if all is well, he will be able to fight as part of the event taking place on November 27, also in Sao Paulo.

Saturday's card will still move forward, with a clash for the WBO Latin welterweight title between local favorite Fernando Pinto and Buenos Aires' Juan Leal, over the distance of ten rounds.

On the other hand, Uruguayan prospects José Acevedo, Víctor Rodríguez and Jairo Albiso will also see action as part of the Sao Paulo evening, as part of the first edition of the "KO AL COVID 19."

Acevedo (6-0, 4 KOs) will face Brazilian Pedro Guilherme Dos Santos (3-2-2) over six rounds, Albiso (3-0, 3 KO) will go in against fellow local Ykaro David Silva Santos (2-0, 1 KO) over the distance of four rounds and Rodríguez (2-0), will go in against the Sao Paulo's Kenes Carneiro Mesquita (3-3-0), also over four rounds.
