Walter Kautondokwa: record, next fight and profile →
By Keith Idec - As it turned out, Walter Kautondokwa should’ve been wary of Demetrius Andrade’s power. Andrade knocked down Kautondokwa three times legitimately Saturday night and easily won their 12-round main event at TD Garden in Boston. His unanimous-decision victory earned the 30-year-old Andrade (26-0...
NEW YORK – Eddie Hearn doesn’t view Saturday night only as an opportunity for Demetrius Andrade to win a middleweight world title. Andrade’s new promoter considers Andrade’s fight against Walker Kautondokwa as his undefeated fighter’s platform to start becoming a star. The 30-year-old Andrade already is a two-time 154-pound champion, yet not the star his talent indicates he could’ve become long ago.
Demetrius Andrade threw and landed above the middleweight avg. for total punches vs. Fox, Culcay & Nelson and landed 45.2% of his power punches, but only 12.4% of his jabs (3.5 per round).
Irish heavyweight Niall Kennedy out-landed Brendan Barrett to win a sloppy, six-round heavyweight fight Saturday in Boston. Kennedy, 34, knocked down Barrett in the fifth round and won their bout on all three scorecards on the Demetrius Andrade-Walter Kautondokwa undercard at TD Garden. Kennedy (12-0-1, 7 KOs) won by scores of 60-53, 60-53 and 58-55.
When Walter Kautondokwa was offered an unforeseen shot to fight Demetrius Andrade late last month, it only took a couple hours to finalize a deal to replace Billy Joe Saunders if Saunders wasn’t granted a boxing license by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission.
NEW YORK – A bit of a nightmare. That’s how promoter Eddie Hearn described Demetrius Andrade having to prepare for a right-handed knockout artist on two weeks’ notice. The undefeated former junior middleweight champion had been training to box Billy Joe Saunders, a very skillful southpaw, until the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission denied Saunders’ license application October 9 for failing a performance-enhancing drug test.
Walter Kautondowka warned anyone making the mistake of thinking he doesn’t have a shot to upset Demetrius Andrade on Saturday night. The unknown, unbeaten Namibian contender has fought a low level of opposition on his way to securing a shot at the vacant WBO middleweight title. He assured skeptics, though, that he is more than ready to take this steep step up in competition against Andrade at TD Garden in Boston (DAZN).
