There are a couple of popular schools of thought regarding the latest contender who will attempt to wrest the WBC heavyweight title from Vitali Klitschko in Cologne this Saturday night.

By Cliff Rold - There is, for some, optimism as boxing approaches the first major Heavyweight fight of the year this weekend. It has not been unfair to argue the years since the retirement of Lennox Lewis as the least entertaining era in Heavyweight history. Some might even say the worst, period, but the entertainment part is what is really being gotten at. Least entertaining is not an indictment of the qualities of the best fighters of the time. The brothers Klitschko are good fighters in any era, champions in more than a few, and have made due with what they’ve had around them. They are a testament to professionalism and focus. Where other fighters of their size and skill might well have sloughed off and still assumed victory on most nights, where other contenders in their time have made a habit of showing up looking like they didn’t show up, the Klitschko’s always arrive ready.

Fred Sternburg: Well, it's not every day we get to announce that a world heavyweight championship fight is being broadcast live in the U.S., but we're sure happy to be doing it today.

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye wants to duplicate the 2003 performance by Lennox Lewis, who shredded the left side of Vitali Klitschko's face. Klitschko needed 60 stitches to repair four cuts on his face and one in his mouth. Haye wants inflict the same type of damage to younger brother Wladimir Klitschko, the WBO/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion.

Lennox Lewis has hailed Vitali Klitschko's longevity as WBC heavyweight champion and backed the Ukrainian to continue to reign when he meets Odlanier Solis in Cologne on Saturday night.

Cologne/Germany – Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38 KOs), and Odlanier Solis (17-0, 12 KOs), participated today in a public workout at Mercedes Benz Center Cologne in front of 1,000 boxing fans. WBC World Heavyweight Champion Klitschko and WBC mandatory challenger Solis will face off next Saturday at LANXESS arena in Cologne, Germany.

Former world title challenger Albert Sosnowski, who lost to WBC champion Vitali Klitschko via a spirited late knockout in June 2010, considers Vitali to be a heavy favorite in Saturday's fight with undefeated Cuban defector and 2004 Olympic Gold medal winner Odlanier Solis. The fight will happen in Cologne, Germany.
