Hector Garcia had no difficulty making weight Friday for a fight he took on relatively short notice. The Dominican southpaw stepped on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s scale at 129½ pounds for his 12-round, 130-pound fight against former WBA interim super featherweight champ Chris Colbert on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Brooklyn’s Colbert was a little lighter, 128¾ pounds, when it was his turn to weigh in at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

By Keith Idec - Viktor Postol traveled from Los Angeles to Las Vegas this week to fight for what’s left of his career Saturday night. The former WBC super lightweight champion accepts that his life literally is on the line every time he enters a boxing ring, yet Postol also realizes that whatever he experiences during his 10-round, 141-pound fight against Gary Antuanne Russell cannot compare to what awaits him at home in war-torn Ukraine. Postol left his wife, Olga, and their twin 5-year-old sons, Lukyam and Timofey, a little more than a month ago to complete training camp at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.

By Cliff Rold - Undisputed Jr. welterweight king Josh Taylor (18-0, 13 KO) is going home. One day, we may look at Taylor as Scotland’s finest since at least Ken Buchanan. In 2022, it’s enough to just be one of the best fighters in the world. With wins over Viktor Postol, Regis Prograis, and Jose Ramirez, Taylor earned his place in the ring.

LAS VEGAS – Jose Ramirez admits he wasn’t at his best when he beat Viktor Postol by majority decision August 29. The COVID-19 pandemic caused two postponements of their mandated 140-pound title fight, which forced Ramirez and Postol to train three times for it. Ramirez told BoxingScene.com that he was “mentally exhausted” by the time they fought for his WBC and WBO championships.

LAS VEGAS – Jose Ramirez was an unfulfilled fighter when he left Las Vegas late last August. The unbeaten WBC/WBO 140-pound champion got past mandatory challenger Viktor Postol, yet Ramirez wasn’t the least bit pleased with his performance. Ramirez realizes he is capable of much more than he showed versus Ukraine’s Postol, who lost a 12-round majority decision to the 2012 U.S. Olympian on August 29 at MGM Grand Conference Center.

It’s long been one of boxing’s mysteries, or at least that’s what we’re told. When it comes to the big fights not happening, we are given endless excuses, or as the non-combative combatants might say, reasons. Sometimes, we’re told, it’s just one of those things.

Josh Taylor wasn’t nearly as impressed with Jose Ramirez on Saturday night as he was with how Viktor Postol performed. Ramirez retained his WBC and WBO 140-pound titles against Postol, whom he beat by majority decision in their 12-round fight at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas. Taylor still saw plenty of flaws in Ramirez, the opponent the IBF/WBA champ hopes to meet next if he wins his own mandated title defense September 26 in London.
