Viktor Postol: record, next fight and profile →
Even after it was officially announced, Regis Prograis didn’t believe Viktor Postol would actually fight him Friday night. Prograis figured he represented too much risk and too little reward for Postol. That’s why the New Orleans native wasn’t the least bit surprised when Postol pulled out of their fight for the WBC’s interim super lightweight title three weeks ago.
Regis Prograis will face a different former 140-pound champion in his upcoming title shot. ESPN.com reported Monday that Julius Indongo has replaced an injured Viktor Postol as Prograis’ opponent March 9. Ukraine’s Postol (29-1, 12 KOs) suffered a fractured thumb recently, which forced him to withdraw from their scheduled 12-round fight for the WBC’s interim super lightweight title.

According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, his organization is following through with their plan in the wake of the announcement that junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs) is heading up to the welterweight division. In August, Crawford knocked out Julius Indongo to unify the entire division by bringing together the WBO, WBA, IBF, WBC titles. Crawford has already vacated his IBF, WBO belts. And he fully intends to head up to 147-pounds.
A fight for the WBC interim super lightweight title is significantly closer, as number two ranked Regis Prograis and number four Viktor Postol, did a face off, and each received a medal at the World Boxing Council's 55th Convention, in Baku, Azerbaijan. As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, if current WBC champion Terence Crawford vacates the crown for a planned move to the welterweight division, then number one contender Amir Imam would fight number three Jose Carlos Ramirez for the vacant championship. And Regis would take on Viktor.

Victoria Olshana, a female newcomer to the European promotional scene, staged a huge (by present-day Ukrainian standards) local show at the AKKO International in Kiev, Ukraine, with a number of locally known fighters taking their parts in. One man, however, was different, stood out - as always in his career - as a specific proposition for boxing-hungry local aficionados from the world boxing scene, and attracted extra attention to the show.
Terence Crawford’s trainer doesn’t think the unbeaten 140-pound champion Crawford will face August 19 is as good as the undefeated super lightweight title-holder Crawford dominated last summer. When asked over the weekend in Los Angeles if Julius Indongo is better than Viktor Postol, Brian McIntyre told BoxingScene.com, “No, no. F***, no. Hell, no. F***, no. Postol beat some good guys. You know what I’m saying? But we ready, though.”
