Rios Trashes Victor Ortiz: F*** That Fool; He Didn't Want To Fight

All it took Wednesday was for Brandon Rios to simply suspect a question regarding Victor Ortiz was about to be asked. That prompted an aggravated Rios to unload on Ortiz, his longtime rival from Kansas, during an interview with BoxingScene.com following his open workout in Lynwood, California. Rios referred to Ortiz as “a retarded motherf***er” and reiterated that it was Ortiz, not him, that didn’t want their long-discussed grudge match to happen recently.

Victor Ortiz still wants to fight Brandon Rios. To make their bout bigger, it would be better if Rios upsets Danny Garcia on February 17, the same night Ortiz will encounter Devon Alexander on another card. Ortiz just can’t envision his rival beating Garcia, a former welterweight champion who has lost just once and is still in his physical prime.

Devon Alexander and Victor Ortiz will have an opportunity to draw a sizeable television audience for their upcoming welterweight fight. According to a Tweet by ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael on Sunday, FOX will air Alexander-Ortiz on February 17 from the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. The card headlined by Alexander-Ortiz will be broadcast on free TV on the same night Showtime will televise a doubleheader featuring another welterweight bout between Danny Garcia and Brandon Rios.

Two former welterweight champions on the comeback trail will try to use each other to move closer toward a title shot. BoxingScene.com has learned that Devon Alexander and Victor Ortiz are likely to meet in a welterweight bout February 17. The site for their fight hasn’t been finalized, but the Alexander-Ortiz bout is expected to be televised by FS1 before Showtime’s broadcast begins later that night from Las Vegas.
