Victor Ortiz, Days Before Fight, Charged With Sexual Assault

Only days before his scheduled fight on Fox Sports 1, former world champion Victor Ortiz was charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.

According to the Ventura County Star, Ortiz turned himself in to local authorities on Monday, according to information provided to the paper from the Oxnard Police Department.

The paper notes that Ortiz was charged Monday by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office with three felony sexual assault charges, including forcible rape.

On Tuesday Ortiz turned himself in to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office East Valley station, Oxnard police said.

Ventura County Superior Court records show a violation date for the sexual assault charges of March 19. Ortiz's bail was set at $100,000.

Ortiz is scheduled to face John Molina on Sunday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

Over the last few years, Ortiz (32-6-3, 25 KOs) has found himself in legal hot water.

Ortiz faced a DUI charge in 2016, when he was driving his BMW and officers smelled booze when he was pulled over.

And in 2015, Ortiz faced an assault case - where it was claimed that he was involved in a brawl at the Rose Bowl.

Ortiz has been out of the ring since February, when he fought to a majority draw with fellow former world champion Devon Alexander.

There was some talk of a potential showdown in the coming months with his career rival, Brandon Rios. The feud between the two boxers has been ongoing for several years, and for the first time there are no network or promotional boundaries to prevent the fight from taking place - and they both compete in the welterweight division.

But the contest never came about and Ortiz then finalized a deal to fight friend and former sparring partner Molina.

No hard evidence = no proven crime committed. NEVER trust a woman you hardly know, in fact never trust any women apart from your mother.
Depends on your age, but basically, before there was an internet, you didn't have this many people getting locked up without evidence of a crime. You didn't. They might have been arrested on suspicion, but not put in prison. With…
I get your point, but no judicial system has ever, in the history of mankind, successfully implemented the standard (of certainty) you're shooting for. That's because, as you acknowledge, humans are imperfect...and the judicial system is a product of humanity.…
That's exactly what I prefer. Proof. Definitive, irrefutable proof. That's why this whole #MeToo garbage and the #BlackLivesMatter nonsense got out of hand - because there's too much deviation from the time honored tradition of innocent until proven guilty. That…
But without the use of circumstantial evidence..then, like I said, you'd basically have to catch someone in the act or get a confession to have a conviction. Is that what you'd prefer?
That's exactly what I prefer. Proof. Definitive,…
