LAS VEGAS - Last December Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder battled to a controversial draw in Los Angeles in a Showtime pay-per-view event. Fury appeared to have won most of the rounds but Wilder made the fight closer by scoring two knockdowns. The final scores were 114-112 for Fury, 115-111 for Wilder and 113-113 to round out the split draw.
Most observers felt Fury had done enough to earn the victory over the WBC heavyweight champion and Fury himself has been very adamant that he should have been given the win.
Last week Wilder announced on social media that an agreement for a rematch to take place in early 2020 had been reached.
Two days before the announcement, BoxingScene.com asked Fury what he would do differently if the rematch were to take place. He said that he wouldn't change a thing.
"I wouldn't do nothing different because I won 10 out of 12 rounds and if I can do the same again, another 10 out 12, I will probably get another draw again will I!" Fury said sarcastically.
When pressed if he would try to be more careful to avoid Wilder's big right hand, he insisted that it doesn't matter if he was knocked down because he still had won enough rounds to win the fight and that the knockdowns weren't enough to earn Wilder a draw.
"It doesn't matter. The big shot doesn't mean shit because he only won 10 out of 12 rounds. Yeah but this is boxing, what can we do? It won't be the first time a man has been fucked out of a decision and it sure won't be the last," Fury told BoxingScene.com.
In order for the rematch to take place Wilder must defeat Luis Ortiz in September and after fighting Tom Schwarz in June, Fury is expected to be back in the ring around the same time as Wilder.
Ortiz gave Wilder all he could handle last year when he nearly had Wilder out on his feet before being stopped in the 10th round. Kubrat Pulev and Jarrell Miller are rumored to be potential opponents for Fury for his fight in the fall.
