WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has shot down the recent comments from the handlers for Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO titles.
The two fighters were in serious discussions earlier this year, for an undisputed fight in April, but they were unable to agree on the financial terms for the rematch.
Usyk is now scheduled to face mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois next month in Poland.
On Tuesday, Fury announced that he was going to take on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a boxing match in the month of October in Saudi Arabia. The WBC title will not be at stake.
Alexander Krassyuk, the promoter for Usyk, believes the WBC should strip Fury for being so inactive from actual world titles fights.
"I don’t think it should be relinquished, no. He can be stripped for only one reason if he does not comply with the WBC rules. According to my understanding, he does," Krassyuk told Seconds Out.
"At least he did, he fought [Dillian] Whyte for the mandatory, and now they have to appoint a new mandatory because a new mandatory is not appointed.
“So, he is not actually breaking any rule of the WBC, but from a sports point of view he has to be stripped because he stays inactive for so long and he’s cheating people [by] announcing fights that don’t take place.”
Egis Klimas, the manager for Usyk, erupted over the Fury-Ngannou announcement.
But Fury has disregarded those comments and fired back at Team Usyk.
"Ha ha ha! Don’t hate the player, hate the game. I don’t have a mandatory. When I do have a mandatory, it will be dealt with just like every other mandatory I’ve ever had. Until then, keep on hating motherf------. And enjoy the little, little, little, tiny bit of money you guys are making. All the big Gs in the house," Fury said.
