Tugstsogt Nyambayar: record, next fight and profile →
Chris Colbert has reached a point in his career where reactions to his fighting style and out-of-ring comments will either be fully embraced or roundly chastised. Quite a bit of the latter has come to the surface in recent times, though it’s hardly anything new for the 24-year-old Brooklynite.
The intended course of action for 2021 was to be the same as any other year for Tugstsogt Nyambayar. A planned title run at featherweight was at the forefront for the 2012 Olympic Silver medalist from Mongolia, whose lone career defeat came on that very stage. Nyambayar (12-1, 9KOs) has fought just once since a 12-round unanimous decision loss to WBC featherweight titlist Gary Russell Jr. last February, earning a split decision win over Cobia Breedy last September to claim the number-two position in the WBC featherweight ratings.
Chris Colbert didn’t take offense to a promise from his upcoming challenger, Tugstsogt 'King Tug' Nyambayar to “whoop your ass” on Saturday night. He also doesn’t at all agree with it.
By Cliff Rold - Given how few pounds separate most of boxing’s seventeen weight divisions before the massive jump from light heavyweight to cruiserweight, it can sometimes feel like little more than a meal stands as an obstacle to combat. Those who understand how hard it is to shave pounds can explain how untrue that might be but perceptually it often doesn’t sound like much. It makes a showdown of contenders in weight classes just four pounds apart almost certain to carry a stamp of quality.

Chris Colbert didn’t need long to come correct. The unbeaten Brooklyn native successfully made weight on his second attempt ahead of his WBA interim junior lightweight title defense versus Mongolia’s Tugstsogt Nyambayar. Colbert came in right at the 130-pound divisional limit, just minutes after officially weighing 130.2 on his first attempt during Friday’s weigh-in at Hyatt Regency in Los Angeles.
Chris Colbert has some work to do before proceeding to back up the many bold claims he has made ahead of his next fight. The reigning WBA interim junior lightweight titlist was slightly over the divisional limit for his scheduled 12-round main event versus Mongolia’s Tugstsogt Nyambayar. The bout headlines a televised doubleheader, airing live on Showtime from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
By Jake Donovan - Chris Colbert believes he has already survived the hardest part of his next fight. Awaiting the unbeaten Brooklyn native is a showdown with Mongolia’s Tugstsogt Nyambayar (12-1, 9KOs). The WBA interim junior lightweight title bout takes place this Saturday, live on Showtime from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The way Chris Colbert sees it, his last-minute challenger is presented with a golden opportunity. The way Tugstsogt Nyambayar sees it, his accepting this fight on short notice is the reason why his unbeaten opponent will have the chance to produce fireworks this weekend rather than sit home and watch them on this 4th of July weekend.
