Casino del Sol Resort in Tucson, Arizona - Former unified lightweight world champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (42-4, 20 KOs) stopped Cesar Vazquez (28-3, 16 KOs) in eight rounds.

Unbeaten featherweight prospect Carlos Castro remains unbeaten but was forced to work harder than expected in scoring a six-round decision over Rafael Reyes in their co-feature battle. Scores of 59-55 (twice) and 60-54 were merely reflective of Castro hailing from the Phoenix area and not at all indicative of the action that took place in the ring.

Studio City, California - Light heavyweight Trevor McCumby stopped Brian Holstein (10-3, 7 KOs) in the first round. McCumby (20-0, 16 KOs) dropped Holstein three times, prompting referee Thomas Taylor to stop the bout after the third knockdown at 2:52. McCumby is scheduled to return to the ring on October 17. Lightweight Urmat Ryskeldiev (11-3-1, 7 KOs) stopped Yusmani Abreu (4-12-2) after the fourth round when Abreu did not come out for the fifth round.

Lightweight contender Jose Felix (30-1-1, 25 KOs) returns to action this weekend versus Marcos Leonardo Jimenez. Their scheduled 10-riund bout tops a Top Rank-promoted show at the Sportsmen's Lodge in the Los Angeles suburb of Studio City, Calif. , airing live on UniMas (Saturday, 11:00 p.m. ET/PT).

Cruiserweight contender BJ Flores (31-1-1) is in the final stages of his training camp for his July 25th showdown against former light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (15-2). The fight takes place at the Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas and will be broadcast on NBC Sports as part of Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series. The fight will be for the interim WBA cruiserweight title.

Super bantamweight prospect Carlos Castro (8-0) defeated Victor Serrano (4-9-1) via unanimous decision in their six round bout. Castro dominated his over matched opponent from the opening bell toll the end. The final scores were 60-54 on all three cards. David Benavidez (8-0, 7KOs), younger brother of Jose, impressed his hometown fans with a second round TKO over Ricardo Campillo (9-7-1) in their light heavyweight fight. Benavidez dropped Campillo three times, the final one being a left hook that sent the 39-year-old to the canvas which prompted the ref to wave the fight off at the 1:21 mark.

Alex Zuzueta (4-0, 3KOs) was forced to go the distance for the first time in his career, but was unfazed in decisioning debutant Juan Carlos Diaz over four rounds. The local flyweight prospect has fought exclusively at this venue for each of his first four bouts in the pro ranks. Trevor McCumby continues to develop as a crowd favorite at Celebrity Theatre. The 22-year old rising prospect from nearby Glendale picked up his third straight win at the venue, stopping Milton Nuñez in the 6th and final round of the evening's curtain raiser. McCumby (18-0, 14KOs) scored body shot knockdowns in rounds three and four before forcing Nuñez (28-12-1, 25KOs) into submission in round six.

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Andy Ruiz faces his first former champ, albeit a badly faded one in Siarhei Liakhovich in a scheduled 10-round bout Saturday evening at Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. The clash serves as the main event of a show that will air live on UniMas in the United States. Conditioning will always be an issue for those who are troubled by the physique Ruiz (23-0, 17KOs) carries into the ring. For Saturday’s contest, the Mexican heavyweight tipped the scales at a beefy 267.8 lb, down from his last fight two months ago but—at 6’2” still well above an ideal fighting weight. Liakhovich (26-6, 16KOs) weighed in at 231.1 lb, his lightest weight in nearly three years. The 38-year old Belarusian–now based out of Arizona—scored a win in this very venue in his last fight this past February, his lone victory since 2010. Three straight knockouts followed, including a one-round drilling at the hands of Deontay Wilder last August.

In the opening bout of the evening, Carlos Castro remained undefeated, scoring a 3rd round knockout of Jaime Gutierrez. The matchup of super bantamweights was fought at a brisk pace, with Gutierrez (4-9, 0KOs) coming to win. Castro (6-0, 3KOs) eventually seized control before forcing the stoppage when Gutierrez suffered an injury and could not continue. All six of Castro's pro fights have been at Celebrity Theater, though his last ring appearance coming exactly 52 weeks ago.

PHOENIX — Tijuana’s Cosme “Chino” Rivera (37-18-3) will face Konstantin Ponomarev (24-0, 12KO) in Saturday’s main event bout at Phoenix’s Celebrity Theatre. Andy Ruiz, who was originally slated to be in the main event spot, was forced to withdraw from the contest due to family reasons. The bout will be televised on Unimas’ Solo Boxeo Tecate. Rivera, who hails from Tijuana, Mexico, promises to be Ponomarev’s toughest opponent to date. In his last outing in May, Rivera knocked out Ty Barnett in the 9th round of a 10-round contest. Barnett was the hometown favorite in the Washington DC bout, and Rivera was subsequently attacked by a local fan.
