Trevor Bryan Crushes BJ Flores in Four, Wins WBA Strap

Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona - Heavyweight contender Trevor Bryan (20-0, 14 KOs) crushed BJ Flores (34-4-1, 21 KOs) in four rounds to capture the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim title.

According to veteran scribe Norm Frauenheim, who was ringisde, Bryan dropped Flores six times in the contest and there was even a seventh knockdown which came after the bell in one of the rounds.

There are now three WBA champions at heavyweight - which has caused a lot of outrage in the boxing community. Manuel Charr is the WBA's "regular" champion at the weight, and the WBA's "super" champion is Anthony Joshua, who also holds the IBF, IBO, WBO world titles.


This was Flores fourth official fight at heavyweight. He had won two fights in a row since suffering a crushing third round KO loss to then WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew in October of 2016 - which saw Flores go down four times in the fight.

Flores has now stopped his last three opponents in four rounds or less.

IN OTHER RESULTS: Raymond Tabugon gave an unbeaten prospect all he could handle before falling short as he bowed to Max Ornelas via unanimous decision on Saturday at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tabugon put up a gallant effort for whole eight rounds but Ornelas’ height advantage proved too much to overcome.

I tried my best to close the distance but he was just really tall,” said the 5-foot-4 Tabugon, who dropped to 20W-9L-1D, 10KOs.

The 5-foot-8 Ornelas remained undefeated after 12 fights.

Despite the loss, Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil still commended Tabugon for standing his ground against the taller opponent.

Aside from the huge height disadvantage, Manangquil said the cut in the right eye that Tabugon suffered in the first round made a big difference.

“I’m happy with Raymond’s performance. He gave everything he had and you can’t ask for more,” said Manangquil.

Tabugon has now lost two straight fights and said he will assess what’s next for him once he returns home.

“I will talk to my team what’s the best decision for my career when I go home in General Santos City,” Tabugon said.

Where is that WBA WBC IBF guy/girl who swore black and blue that the WBA were doing their best to reduce the number of titles in their org? Can't fix stupid.
