Tony Harrison: record, next fight and profile →
Tony Harrison will gladly embrace the underdog role that comes with his upcoming clash with Tim Tszyu. What the former WBC junior middleweight titlist can’t accept, however, is the argument that he will be facing a superior boxer when they meet.
As previously reported, undefeated Australian star Tim Tszyu will take on former world champion Tony Harrison in a 12-round WBO interim-super welterweight world title fight, Sunday, March 12, at Qudos Bank Arena in his hometown of Sydney, Australia.
The last venue to host Tim Tszyu’s previous fight on home soil has also landed the homecoming assignment. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Tszyu’s upcoming interim WBO junior middleweight title fight versus Tony Harrison will take place at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. The venue was finalized more than two weeks after terms were reached for the intriguing March 12 clash (March 11 primetime in the U.S.) between an unbeaten challenger and a former titleholder.
As BoxingScene.com recently reported, Tim Tszyu will fight for the WBO's interim-super welterweight world title in Australia on Sunday, March 12. The information was confirmed by Australian-based promoter No Limit Boxing.
Tim Tszyu didn’t shy away from fighting the only opponent who has beaten Jermell Charlo before Tszyu could get his own shot at the fully unified 154-pound champion. Tszyu, who will face former WBC champ Tony Harrison on March 12, told FOX Sports Australia on Monday that he is ready to “take them all out.”
Tim Tszyu and Tony Harrison were eager to get back in the ring in lieu of waiting out separate shots at the undisputed junior middleweight championship. The pair of top-rated contenders now turn to each other to satisfy that itch.
Tony Harrison seized a red marker, grabbed the first calendar he could find, and immediately began circling one date in particular, the 28th of January. On the night, the former WBC junior middleweight belt holder planned on nestling into a comfortable lush seat and take in the sights as Jermell Charlo was set to defend his undisputed throne against Tim Tszyu.
With his fists clenched in frustration, Erickson Lubin believes that he was just one win away from returning to the scene of the crime. In October of 2017, after racking up a spotless record, Lubin (24-2, 17 KOs) stood across the ring from Jermell Charlo.
Alycia Baumgardner made a surprise appearance during the Mandatories portion of the annual WBC convention, to ensure that her stablemate would not be cheated out of such a fight.
In most instances, the brazen back-and-forth trash talk that two fighters engage in leading up to their showdown, is nothing more than playful and innocuous banter. Yet, in the case of Tony Harrison’s seemingly endless foray of disparaging words spewed in the direction of Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs), the 31-year-old not only meant every bit of it, he still feels the same exact way, despite sharing the ring with him on two occasions.
