Mikaela Mayer and Maiva Hamadouche are set for the first step towards crowning an undisputed champion. The pair of junior lightweight titlists both made weight for their WBO/IBF title unification bout Friday evening at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Mayer checked in at a fighting fit 129.6 pounds, while Hamadouche was well within the limit at 128.6 pounds for her U.S. debut.

PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Mattice came out on the wrong end of a decision this time on “ShoBox.” Determined Mexican Isaac Cruz edged Mattice by majority decision in a 10-round main event Showtime televised from 2300 Arena. Judges Adam Friscia and Steve Weisfeld scored their lightweight fight the same, 96-94, for Cruz, but judge David Braslow had it even (95-95).
Thomas Mattice’s upset of Michael Dutchover in his last fight was the most meaningful win of his career. The Cleveland native is determined to put on an even more impressive performance in another “ShoBox” main event Friday night in Philadelphia. Mattice (15-1-1, 11 KOs) believes beating ranked contender Isaac Cruz (18-1-1, 14 KOs) in their 10-round fight will move him closer to a title eliminator in the 135-pound division and establish him as legitimate lightweight contender.

ShoBox: The New Generation veteran Thomas Mattice upset previously undefeated lightweight prospect Michael Dutchover after an eighth-round cut caused by a Mattice punch ended the fight in his favor by technical knockdown in front of an enthusiastic crowd at La Hacienda Events Center in Dutchover’s hometown of Midland, Texas, on SHOWTIME.
Thomas Mattice ruined Michael Dutchover’s homecoming Friday night. One of Mattice’s punches opened a nasty cut above Dutchover’s left eye in the eighth round, which caused a ringside physician to recommend a stoppage in their lightweight fight. Referee Robert Velez halted their scheduled 10-rounder at 1:33 of the eighth round at La Hacienda Center in Midland, Texas, Dutchover’s hometown.
It would not be a surprise for Michael Dutchover to have butterflies in his stomach and be overwhelmed by the crowd support from his hometown as he walks to the ring tonight. He may understand the meaning of the fight, but Dutchover is not going to be overwhelmed by the moment.
