Terry Flanagan: record, next fight and profile →
The lightweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Venezuela's Jorge Linares, could seek a unification fight when he returns in the summer, and everything indicates that his destiny will take him to England.
A world title unification bout between Mancunians Anthony Crolla and Terry Flanagan "makes sense", says promoter Eddie Hearn. The 29-year-old Crolla (31-4-3, 13KOs) defended his WBA lightweight crown in style by outgunning Ismael Barroso in seven last Saturday night and thoughts turned quickly to a prospective clash with WBO king Flanagan, who attended the same secondary school - St Matthew's RC High in Moston - as 'Million Dollar'.
Terry Flanagan has insisted that the fans will be the ones to lose out if a fight between him and his lightweight rival Anthony Crolla doesn’t materialise. The WBO world champion (30-0, 12 KOs) was ringside last weekend as he watched his fellow Manchurian dismantle dangerous Venezuelan mandatory challenger Ismael Barroso. And Flanagan, whose last fight was a defence of his crown at Liverpool’s ECHO Arena against Derry Mathews in March, hopes that he and the aforementioned WBA champ Crolla can one day grace their Manchester Arena home in a highly-anticipated unification showdown.

Indian boxing sensation Vijinder Singh blew away Hungary’s Alexander Horvath at the Liverpool Echo Arena to claim his fourth successive professional victory. Singh continued his red-hot winning streak by stopping Horvath in the third round with a big body shot.
Terry v Derry trips more easily off the tongue than any firm prediction about the outcome of tomorrow night’s WBO world lightweight title fight set to explode in Liverpool. This fighting Tale of Two Cities has certainly set both Liverpool and Manchester buzzing with anticipation. There is a good case to be made for either the vibrant new champion Terry ‘Turbo’ Flanagan or his ever-resolute challenger ‘Dirty’ Derry Mathews in what looks as an epic encounter of styles, will and passion.
By Cliff Rold - Friday was a pretty good day for boxing. 2016 has been a year of mediocre to good matches so far with big stars spending a lot of time talking about fight they will take…later. Friday, a lot of fights arrived via a major announcement from Showtime. That’s exciting. It’s not here yet. This weekend, fight fans in the US...
Terry Flanagan and Derry Mathews both successfully made weight ahead of their lightweight title fight Saturday evening at the Echo Arena in the challenger's hometown of Liverpool, England.
