BoxingScene.com reported late Wednesday night that Abner Mares was vacating his WBC super bantamweight title and moving up to the featherweight division. Mares was ordered to defend his title against mandatory challenger Victor "El Vikingo" Terrazas (36-2-1, 21KOs). A purse bid was scheduled for today. With Mares moving up, the WBC is expected to order an all-Mexican clash between Terrazas and former multi-division champion Cristian Mijares (47-6-2, 22KOs), who is unbeaten since 2009 and won his last eleven fights.
