Terence Crawford: record, next fight and profile →
Kenny Porter admits he was wrong about Terence Crawford. The veteran trainer and father of former welterweight titlist Shawn Porter offered a mea culpa after Crawford thoroughly dismantled Errol Spence Jr. in their undisputed welterweight championship last Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las
Trainer Kenny Porter is concerned by the damage Errol Spence Jr. sustained in his dramatically one-sided tussle with Terence Crawford. Crawford scored three knockdowns en route to stopping Spence in the ninth round at T-Mobile Arena last Saturday in Las Vegas to unify all four belts in the welterweight division. Most expected a nip-and-tuck affair, but the high-profile showdown quickly devolved into a mismatch, with Crawford having his way with the native of Desoto, Texas, practically from the get-go. Omaha, Nebraska’s Crawford dropped Spence three times in the fight and landed what seemed like the majority of his punches.
Jaron Ennis believes he’s been patient long enough. With the IBF interim tag safely around his waist, the Philly star is convinced that he should be next in line to face Terence Crawford.
There was a confident look on the face of Errol Spence Jr. whenever Terence Crawford’s name was brought up in conversations. Sure the Omaha, Nebraska, native has easily walked through everyone he’s faced but Spence was a different animal. Even after agreeing to face Crawford on July 29th, Spence claimed that his fellow welterweight champ was in for a long and painful night.
Outside of a cool ring entrance and competitive first round, nothing went right for Errol Spence Jr. this past Saturday night. He boastfully pontificated his ability to not just beat Terence Crawford but to embarrass him, walk through him, and
The Terence Crawford-Errol Spence superfight produced an undisputed welterweight champion and a massive live gate. Jaron Ennis has been quietly knocking on the door politely asking to get in. At this point, however, he’s ready to kick it down. For years now, the Philly star has flashed the sort of talent that’s seldom seen. With the 26-year-old hunting for a world title shot, he was forced to play the waiting game while the top of the welterweight division unclogged itself.
The best week of boxing in years didn’t go quite as expected. Two highly anticipated matches perceived as nearly even going in turned into something else entirely. From two superfights we got a pair of singular performances for the ages. In the last thirty years, there are a relative handful of performances like the pair we got just four days apart: Roy Jones-James Toney, Floyd Mayweather-Diego Corrales, Bernard Hopkins-Felix Trinidad, Vernon Forrest-Shane Mosley; there are a few more, but not many.
Undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo will be moving up two weight classes to challenge super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 30 on Showtime pay-per-view.
