Sean Gibbons, the President of Manny Pacquiao (MP) Promotions, believes Floyd Mayweather is using the Filipino superstar to keep his name out there.

The 42-year-old Mayweather, who retired from boxing in August 2017, has been trading words with Pacquiao on social media.

Pacquiao, 40-years-old, has continued his career and last month shocked critics when he dropped and decisioned undefeated Keith Thurman to win the WBA welterweight title.

Gibbons believes the continued legacy run of Pacquiao is driving Mayweather to "bonkers" and prompting him to make wild comments during interviews and on social media.

"The senator’s legacy is rolling and rolling and that’s driving Floyd a little bonkers and mad ever since they fought in 2015," said Gibbons, according to Rappler.

"At 40 years old, he (Pacquiao) is creating history. He’s doing things that are unprecedented at the welterweight division. Nobody has done what he’s done recently – beating a 30-year-old Keith Thurman."

Mayweather has alleged that Pacquiao is continuously using his name to create headlines, but Gibbons disagrees.

"The senator (Pacquiao) doesn’t base his life around Mayweather, but Floyd Mayweather seems to base his life around the senator now," shared Gibbons.

"Everywhere the senator goes, he has to somehow tag or when I was in the ring for the fight with Keith Thurman, I looked over and I saw Floyd Mayweather and I was like what’s Floyd Mayweather doing here?"

When they faced each other in May of 2015, in the richest fight in boxing history, Mayweather won a twelve round unanimous decision. In the aftermath, Pacquiao claimed that he entered the fight with a pre-existing shoulder injury.

Mayweather disputes any claim being made of an injury, but Pacquiao did undergo surgery shortly after.

While there have been hints of a potential comeback, Mayweather has also stated that he doesn't have a real desire to return to the ring.
