Immediately following his seventh-round stoppage win over late replacement Fernando Beltran (36-8-1, 20 KOs) on "ShoBox: The New Generation," junior lightweight contender Diego Magdaleno (22-0, 8 KOs) and his trainer/manager Pat Barry told BoxingScene.com who they were gunning for next.

"We want the IBF champion (Juan Carlos Salgado)," Barry told BoxingScene.com from the locker room in the Casino Del Sol in Tuscon, Arizona.  "Any of these champs will do, but he stuck out first in my mind."

Salgado (24-1-1, 16 KOs) is coming off a no-contest in December against Miguel Beltran (no relation).  Magdaleno chimed in on the matter.  "I'm ready for whoever Top Rank puts in front of me, but I think I'm ready for a world title next if it came up."

Magdaleno showed some moxie against the substitute, recovering from a fourth-round knockdown--his second in two fights--to thrash his fellow southpaw with a string of vicious right hooks and uppercuts up the middle to eventually wear him down.

"Give him credit," Magdaleno said.  "He came into the fight prepared. He was a southpaw, and it took me a couple rounds to get his style down, and with the knockdown, I didn't expect the shots coming from an angle.  He caught me, but I gave him a wink and surprised him when I came back at him."

"Diego has the heart of a champion," added Barry.  "This guy had 45 pro fights and had never been stopped.  He wanted to make a statement and I think he did that tonight."
