Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is looking forward to getting in the ring with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in the fall.

Everything is in order, with Canelo destroying James Kirkland in three rounds last month in Texas and Cotto returning last weekend in New York to stop Daniel Geale in four.

Canelo's manager, Eddy Reynoso, is not taking any chances. On two occasions they attempted to make a fight with Cotto and both times they were unsuccessful. Last year Cotto passed on a guarantee of $10 million to face Sergio Martinez. And their discussions once again fell apart earlier this year after Cotto was unsatisfied with the financial terms.

The fight seems to be closer than ever, but this time around Reynoso says their are locking in some backup options in the event the Cotto fight falls through for a third time.

"Saul has several options, but the fight with Cotto would be very beautiful. Hopefully we can secure that confrontation. That fight would be ideal. But, just in case we have plans B and C," Reynoso said.
