Miami - The team which backs the World Boxing Organization (WBO) super middleweight championship challenger, Roamer Alexis Angulo, is pleased by the opportunity that Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramírez will give to the Colombian fighter on June 30 in the Cheasapeake Energy Arena of Oklahoma in what will be a clash of undefeated fighters.
In this regard, the manager of Colombian Angulo and president of A & T Promotions, Andrew "Andy" Pérez and head trainer, Pedro Díaz, celebrated the opportunity.
"As we have already seen in his previous fights, in the Dominican Republic, the United States and Merida (Mexico), Alexis is already at a level where he is ready for this shot, he is a boxer who is not a rookie, but one already made for a fight of this level. I think that Top Rank (company that manages the champion) perceived that it can be a good fight and they called me, we negotiated, and fortunately everything went well," said Perez.
Pérez, promoter who has presented boxing cards in different cities and developed boxers in the United States, Mexico and other countries in Latin America, recognized that the champion Ramírez (37-0-0 with 25 KOs) is a boxer who is tough, but believes Angulo (23-0-0 with 20 KOs) will beat him.
"Maybe Alexis has not yet fought with people of such renown, he is still on the rise, but he is a good fighter and the power of his hands is enough to beat anyone; we are grateful to Top Rank and we expect a good fight in Oklahoma," Perez said.
In turn, Angulo´s trainer, the well-known Cuban coach Pedro Díaz, was also satisfied with the opportunity and is confident of victory.
"We are going against a great champion that we respect, in boxing everyone who gets into a ring with a Mexican knows that he is going to a war and we are very aware of that," said Díaz, a coach of prominent fighters, including his countryman Guillermo Rigondeaux.
"We are going to work hard for that fight, I think the belt is going to change hands and we are work for that. Certainly they have a great team, and he (Ramirez) is a great fighter, but we are coming for that belt."
