Sunny Edwards: record, next fight and profile →
Sunny Edwards returned from his first defeat – a December flyweight title loss to main-event fighter Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez – and cruised to a unanimous decision victory over Adrian Curiel on Saturday in Phoenix.
Galal Yafai “expects” to fight Sunny Edwards next – if Edwards defeats Mexico’s Adrien Curiel on Saturday evening. Edwards, 28, returns from the first defeat of his career – by Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez for the IBF and WBO flyweight titles – tonight when he fights Curiel at the Footprint Center in Phoenix on the undercard of Rodriguez’s WBC super-flyweight title fight with Juan Francisco Estrada.

PHOENIX, AZ – Boos turned into cheers for Sunny Edwards in his first visit to Arizona. It was a painful introduction, lots of bruises and no belt in a beatdown delivered by Jesse Rodriguez, who left no doubt about why he’s called “Bam” throughout a one-sided stoppage last December.
Sunny Edwards inarguably has the gift of gab – trash talk, specifically – but he also has shown grace in defeat. He was as loquacious as ever in Thursday's press conference ahead of his Saturday fight against Adrian Curiel.
Sunny Edwards is coming off his first career defeat, but he’s treating Saturday’s return at the Footprint Center in Phoenix like business as usual. To hear him talk, in fact, that business should be easy work.
Jesse Rodriguez will face Juan Francisco Estrada – a fighter he watched during his childhood – on Aug. 29 in Phoenix, a potential crowning achievement of Rodriguez's career at 112 and 115 pounds.
