Stephen Fulton: record, next fight and profile →
Stephen Fulton Jr. embraced a rematch with Brandon Figueroa late last year because he wanted to silence skeptics who’ve questioned his victory in their 122-pound title unification fight.
Brandon Figueroa was surprised and disappointed when he learned Stephen Fulton Jr. agreed to fight Naoya Inoue next, not him. Figueroa figures that his rematch with Fulton will still happen at some point. Figueroa had hoped, however, to get the opportunity to avenge his lone loss in his next fight.
Dylan Price (15-0) is putting the final touches on his training camp for his February 18th ring return. The fight takes place at the Llevate Event Center in Chester, PA.
A pound-for-pound showdown is on the horizon. BoxingScene.com has learned that a deal has been reached for a Stephen Fulton-Naoya Inoue championship fight. Fulton will defend his unified WBC/WBO junior featherweight crown versus Inoue, who recently vacated his undisputed bantamweight championship in pursuit of winning a title in a fourth weight division.
By Cliff Rold - It wasn’t a surprise given the rules and standards of the World Boxing Organization but the news on Wednesday was welcome. As reported in the Japan Times and multiple other outlets, 29-year old undisputed bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (24-0, 21 KO) was “awarded the status of bantamweight super champion in the World Boxing Organization’s latest rankings, giving him priority for a title shot if he moves up to challenge American Stephen Fulton in the weight division above.”
With each concussive knockout, Naoya Inoue has continued on his quest to aggregate every world title at 118 pounds. Following three successive stoppage victories, the Japanese star sought to make amends for his 2019 showdown against Nonito Donaire. Although the 29-year-old eked out a close but clear unanimous decision victory in their first meeting, he violently and mercilessly ended their rivalry in their eventual rematch.
Stephen Fulton has taken a proactive approach for his next fight as an undisputed clash remains outside of his grasp. A petition filed by the unified WBC/WBO junior featherweight title to next compete at featherweight was unanimously approved by the WBC Board of Governors on Wednesday during its convention in Acapulco, Mexico. Stephen Fulton and Naoya Inoue may hail from two different parts of the world, but both unified champions have plenty in common.
Stephen Fulton has built both his brand and name by fighting the best fighters that the super bantamweight division has to offer. With the WBC and WBO titles dangling from his proud shoulders, the Philadelphia native has openly taken on all comers. However, even with Fulton defeating the likes of Daniel Roman, Brandon Figueroa, and Angelo Leo, Ra’eese Aleem is convinced that the unified champion is running scared from him.
For approximately two years, Ra’eese Aleem has continued to hoot and holler in the direction of Stephen Fulton. Most recently, after dissecting Mike Plania over the course of 12 rounds on September 4th, Aleem (20-0, 12 KOs) audaciously called for Fulton to face him in the ring.
