When it gets to the championship rounds and Stephan Shaw has to dig deep to win the big fight, don’t worry about him hitting the wall. He’s been there already. Literally. And there are the marks to prove it.
Ring City USA enjoys its second consecutive main event featuring a female title fight. Long-reigning featherweight titlist Jelena Mrdjenovich defends her WBA strap versus Erika Cruz Hernandez. The bout has been elevated to headlining act Thursday evening on NBC Sports Network from U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. The move was made in the wake of Jermaine Franklin (20-0, 13KOs) testing positive for COVID-19, forcing his withdrawal from a scheduled heavyweight clash versus Stephan Shaw (14-0, 10KOs).
Heavyweight up-and-comer Jermaine Franklin has tested positive for Covid-19, forcing him out of a meaningful fight with fellow unbeaten American Stephan Shaw, sources with knowledge of the situation told BoxingScene on Sunday.
Eddie Hearn, promoter for heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte, is still very interested in staging his boxer's next fight in the United States. Last month in Gibraltar, Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) stopped Alexander Povetkin in the fourth round of their highly-anticipated rematch. The victory avenged a brutal knockout loss that Whyte suffered back in August of 2020.
The nation’s most notable military service academy will host a full evening of boxing action headlined by Ring City’s first ever heavyweight main event when two undefeated American heavyweights Jermaine Franklin (20-0, 13 KOs) and Stephan Shaw (14-0, 10 KOs) meet in a ten-round fight.

There will be cards on April 8 and April 22, a source with knowledge of schedule told BoxingScene while also outlining the main events.
