Errol Spence Jr. took to social media today for the first time since surviving a scary car crash and serious injuries on Oct. 10 in Dallas in which his convertible Ferrari flipped over several times and ejected him from the vehicle.
“No broken bones, I’m a savage!!” Spence wrote on Instagram Stories in a post that was deleted minutes after it was published Wednesday.
According to a source aware of Spence’s physical condition, he remains hospitalized under regular care and a further update on his health condition will be provided as soon as the family is ready to share new developments.
Spence’s trainer Derrick James told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that he had no comment on Spence’s physical condition.
Spence’s Ferrari veered over the central reservation of a dual carriageway while travelling at a high speed at 2:53 a.m. CT. Nearby security cameras captured the crash and video surfaced shortly afterward of the accident. The 29-year-old Texan was rushed to an intensive care unit at Methodist Dallas Medical Center following the single-car crash. Dallas police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Hours after the incident, PBC said Spence’s injuries weren’t life-threatening. The following statement was released as well: “Spence is awake and responding and his condition is listed as stable. He did not sustain any broken bones or fractures, but has some facial lacerations. He is expected to make a full recovery. He is currently resting with his family by his side.”
Spence (26-0, 21 KOs) is the unified welterweight champion who holds the WBC and IBF titles. The accident occurred 12 days after the southpaw beat Shawn Porter via split decision in a fight of the year contender at Staples Center.
