Errol Spence Jr. doesn’t consider Chris Algieri to be the huge step up in class Algieri considers himself. Spence acknowledged that Algieri, a former WBO junior welterweight champion, is more accomplished than anyone he has faced in his first 19 professional fights.
It's not often that NBC and CBS-affiliated networks will offer cross-promotion for programming on the same night, but could very well become the case on a busy night of boxing on April 16. As previously announced, Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC makes its return with a loaded bill from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The primetime telecast - beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET - is topped by a welterweight crossroads bout between unbeaten contender Errol Spence (19-0, 16KOs) and Long Island-bred former 140 lb. titlist Chris Algieri (21-2, 8KOs).
New York, NY- Chris Algieri has campaigned from junior welterweight and welterweight divisions fighting names like Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, and Ruslan Provodnikov. Now he faces an up and comer who has as much promise as any prospect in boxing currently in Errol Spence, Jr. While many established guys may have shied away at facing Spence, Algieri is sort of a throwback taking on all comers.
Chris Algieri has heard all the hype about Errol Spence Jr. becoming the next huge thing in boxing. Algieri still doesn’t know if it’s justifiable because he isn’t the least bit impressed with the type of opponents Spence has boxed during his three-year pro career. The former WBO 140-pound champion does know that he is by far the best foe Spence has agreed to face.
It's our second PBC on NBC event and I'm thrilled to have Errol and Chris in our ring. We expect a lot of Long Islanders to take the LIRR to Barclays Center.
On the heels of a spectacular night in January, we return for another great night at Barclays Center. This will make our 17th boxing show. We are the home of professional boxing now.
New York, NY - Star Boxing’s Joe DeGuardia has promoted former world champion Chris Algieri from the ballrooms of Long Island to the biggest stages of boxing. His fighter returns on April 16th when he takes on unbeaten Errol Spence at the Barclays Center on prime time on NBC.
Also in attendance Wednesday was former world champion Steve "U.S.S." Cunningham, who takes on cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Glowacki, and undefeated 2012 U.S. Olympian "Sir" Marcus Browne, who faces undefeated Radivoje "Hot Rod" Kalajdzic.
NEW YORK - Undefeated rising star Errol "The Truth" Spence Jr. and former world champion Chris Algieri went face-to-face for the first time Wednesday at a press conference at Gallagher's Steakhouse in Manhattan as they discussed their Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC showdown taking place Saturday, April 16 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Chris Algieri was coming off of back-to-back losses and didn't exactly set the world afire in his close points win over Erick Bone last December in Brooklyn, New York. Yet the articulate and charismatic Long Island product remained in high demand.
