According to Surachart Pisitwuttinan, promoter for WBC super flyweight world champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (45-4-1, 40 KOs), the Thai superstar is “in mentally bad shape” after the breakdown of his 14-year relationship with girlfriend Patchareewan Kanha.
Sor Rungvisai's next title defense was being targeted for August - potentially in a rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico.
He won a very tight twelve round majority decision over Estrada in a mandatory fight back in February at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
But his promoter indicates that the boxer is in no condition to begin training for a ring return in the month of August, and is going to postpone his next defense until a later date.
“He needs time to heal and is not ready for training,” said Surachart to The Nation.
“He will be asking for the next bout which is due in the US in August to be postponed. When he is ready, he will have a press conference and resume his training."
The Nation reports that Sor Rungvisai was due to get married this month, and the relationship may have been broken as a result of a third party.
It's being claimed that Patchareewan posted a picture of herself with an unidentified man on social media, but she later removed the post.
The boxer's fans back in Thailand are stunned over the breakup, with well-known stories of how the couple stuck together in the early days of Sor Rungvisai's career - when he struggled to make money and they were forced to share packets of instant noodles for their daily meals.
Sor Rungvisai's standing in the sport was catapulted back in March of 2017, when he pulled off a major upset with a twelve round unanimous decision win over Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez to capture the WBC title. At the time Gonzalez was the number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.
A rematch was staged in the fall of last year, with Sor Rungvisai demolishing Gonzalez in four rounds.
