Skoglund Update, Castano-Vitu News, Badou Jack, Wallin, More

By Per Ake Persson

Erik Skoglund is back home in Nykoping and has been seen walking on his own with the support of one crutch. Erik writes on social media that a long period of rehab awaits and thanks his fans and friends for all the support.

It was December 8 that Skoglund was injured during sparring and was taken to hospital where he had surgery for some kind of brain bleed.

Skoglund was last seen losing a decision to Callum Smith in September in the World Boxing Super Series Quarterfinals at super middleweight. He was then set to fight Rocky Fielding December 17 but that fight was called off when the main event - Bellew vs Haye II - was postponed.

Former WBC champ Badou Jack is on a brief visit to Stockholm. Badou was nominated to Athlete of the Year and was present with his two belts (WBC super middle and WBA light heavy). Jack didn´t win however but told media he expects the fight against Adonis Stevenson at the end of March.

Romanian cruiserweight Alexandru Jur was all set to defend the title against Fabio Turchi in February but had to pull out due to an injury. Not only that he relinquished title but is now back as co-challenger for the vacant title. Jur vs Turchi has February 5 as deadline for purse bids or agreements.

Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin will fight Srdan Govegarica on January 27 in Riga (Latvia) on the undercard to Usyk vs Briedis, reports matchmaker Dalibor Dan on Twitter.

The fight has not been confirmed by Team Sauerland yet - and when and where Otto Wallin will fight Adrian Granat for the vacant EU title is also up in the air. Sauerland won purse bids to stage the fight late December.
