Shawn Porter: Danny Garcia is The Biggest Fight of My Life

Despite boasting a resume that includes Keith Thurman, Adrien Broner and Pauli Malignaggi, Shawn Porter believes his clash with Danny Garcia is the most important of his career.

Porter squares off with fellow former titlist Garcia for the vacant WBC Welterweight crown next month, live in the UK and Ireland on BoxNation.

'Showtime' recognises that the September 8th showdown is a must win if he wants to return to the top of the 147lb crop.

"It’s the biggest fight of my life," he told Fightful. "It’s bigger than when I beat Devon Alexander [in 2013] and I’m really proud of myself on being able to win the IBF Title and take it back home.

"To fight someone like Garcia who was virtually unstoppable, he’s no slouch. He’s very experienced in the ring. I know this is going to be a great night for me. You can talk about me having fought these big name fighters, I want to stay on the top side of that."

Porter's only two defeats came against world class opposition, losing his IBF belt to Kell Brook on a close majority decision in 2014, before being outpointed by WBA Champion Keith Thurman in a Fight of the Year contender two years later.

"I dropped one to Brook and dropped one to Thurman so to have those guys on my resume, to have those guys that I fought, honestly it means nothing to me if I’m not beating those guys and being successful," he admitted.

Big time boxing heads to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn once again next week, a venue where Porter has already boxed four times, and the 30-year-old cannot wait to return to the 'Big Apple'.

"As a whole, it’s just a tonne of fun. When you touch down and from the moment you leave, the Brooklyn fans are [amazing]. They’ll tell you what they like, what they don’t like and it just makes it an absolute joy to fight in that atmosphere.

"Fight night, when you step into the ring, it’s just like any other ring out there. You do anything you can to be successful and beat the guy across from you. This time it’s Danny Garcia," he added.
