At Staples Center in Los Angeles, a battle of former junior middleweight champions saw "Sugar" Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39KOs) and Sergio "Latin Snake" Mora (22-1-2, 6KOs) battle to a twelve round draw. The scores were 115-113 for Mora, 116-112 for Mosley and 114-114 for the draw.
Both of them came out pawing with the jab and looking for openings. Not much of anything from either in the first. The second round followed the same pattern. The round was ugly with a lot of holding and very little fighting. The third was another ugly round with Mosley chasing Mora around. The fourth had some better work by Mora with punches being landed on the inside while making Mosley miss. There was an accidental clash of heads that opened up a cut above the right eye of Mora.
Mosley appeared to be getting tired in the fifth. Mora was making Mosley chase him, trying to make Mosley work harder than he wants to. The sixth had the same look, with a tired Mosley chasing Mora around trying to land punches. Mora started getting braver in the seventh, landing shots to the head and sneaky body shots. The eight round was another ugly round with a lot of chasing, holding and missed punches.
In the ninth, Mosley tried to pick up the pace. He was trying to press the action but he was breathing heavy and seemed to be too tired to continue the hard pace. Mora was slipping a lot of punches and made Mosley pay in spots. Mora started taking the fight to Mosley in the tenth round. Mosley tried to stay close to Mora and they were trading punches with both hands. Mosley was missing a lot and Mora was landing a lot.
Mosley continued to make it a fight in the eleventh. He pressed on Mora and the two of them were trading punches at close range. Mosley was outworking Mora at this point with better landed punches. The twelfth began with Mosley continuing to press the attack. He spent most of the rounds pinning Mora against the ropes and throwing multiple flurries of punches.
