Promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER will attempt to discourage Amir Khan from exercising his right to an immediate rematch with domestic rival Kell Brook.
Last month in Manchester, Khan returned to the ring for the first time since July 2019, to face his rival of the last ten years, Brook.
In what became a one-sided contest, Brook rocked Khan on several occasions and finally stopped him in the sixth round when the referee had seen enough.
Khan prepared to the best of his ability, including a revamp of his team with Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre taking over the head trainer duties.
In the aftermath, the 35-year-old Khan openly admitted that his best days were behind him, and said retirement was likely.
But, Khan also has the contractual right to an immediate rematch and he's seriously considering the scenario of pursuing a second go at Brook, according to Shalom.
"The past few days I've received emails, texts, everything. Amir wants the rematch, he really does want the rematch. I don't think it will happen, if I'm honest. I don't think as a promoter I can see the reason why it should happen," Shalom told Talk Sport.
"I'm yet to sit down with Amir and really understand where he's coming from, from an injury point of view, from a preparation point of view.
"I think his ego's very hurt and he doesn't want to be remembered for that fight - and I don't think he will be. But I think that's where it's coming from, but honestly, Amir Khan wants the rematch."
Shalom has yet to sit down with Khan to map out his future, but he will attempt to steer him away from a Brook rematch.
"Yeah. I'm gonna try and make sure he makes a sensible decision," Shalom said.
For his part, Brook is ready to do it a second time - if Khan exercises the rematch clause.
"If he wants another whooping he can have another whooping. It was so one-sided, I don't know what he can say and come back to the table with. If he wants that rematch, I'll dust them gloves off and do it again," Brook told Sky Sports.
