Shakur Stevenson seemed completely comfortable in his new weight class Friday afternoon.

Unlike his previous attempt at making weight in his hometown, the former 126-pound and 130-pound champion met his contractual obligation for his lightweight debut Saturday night. Stevenson stepped on the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board’s scale at 134.4 pounds for his 12-round, 135-pound main event versus Shuichiro Yoshino at Prudential Center in Stevenson’s hometown of Newark, New Jersey.

Tokyo’s Yoshino officially weighed 135 pounds for a WBC elimination match that will headline ESPN’s three-bout broadcast (10 p.m. ET).

The winner will become the mandatory challenger for Devin Haney or Vasiliy Lomachenko, who will fight May 20 for Haney’s IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO lightweight titles at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Stevenson, 25, is ranked third among the WBC’s lightweight contenders. Yoshino, 31, is the WBC’s fourth-ranked lightweight contender.

The left-handed Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs) is listed as a 16-1 favorite versus Yoshino (16-0, 12 KOs), despite Yoshino’s experience and success in Stevenson’s new weight class.

Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, moved up to the lightweight division after missing weight for his last fight. He officially weighed 131½ pounds for his 12-round, 130-pound championship bout against Robson Conceicao on September 23 at Prudential Center.

A drained Stevenson didn’t attempt to make weight after failing on his first try September 22 and thus was stripped of his WBC and WBO 130-pound championships. Those titles were at stake for Stevenson’s opponent, but he beat Brazil’s Conceicao convincingly on all three scorecards (118-108, 117-109, 117-109) in a 12-round main event ESPN televised.
