At the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California, WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (36-0, 24 KOs) stopped Daniel Dawson (34-2, 24 KOs) in the tenth round. The fight had few surprised. Dzinziruk dominated the action from start to finish, punishing Dawson in every round with stiff jabs and combinations. The ref had seen enough in the tenth round and finally stopped the beating.
Undefeated welterweight prospect Vernon Paris (21-0, 14 KOs) stayed alive with a lackluster e ight round split decision over Juan Santiago (12-4-1, 7 KOs). The scores were 76-75, 76-75 for Paris and 77-74 for Paris. Paris was not impressive. He seemed to gas out by the third round and only fought in spurts.
