Sergey Lipinets: record, next fight and profile →
UNCASVILLE, Connecticut – The biggest fight of Jaron Ennis’ career is officially on. Ennis and Sergey Lipinets both made weight Friday morning for their 12-round welterweight fight Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena. Philadelphia’s Ennis stepped on the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation’s scale at 146.4 pounds, slightly less than Kazakhstan’s Lipinets, who weighed 146.8 pounds.
Custio Clayton is impressed by Jaron Ennis’ physical attributes. The unbeaten Canadian welterweight gives Sergey Lipinets a better chance than most to upset the gifted Philadelphia fighter on Saturday night, though. The 23-year-old Ennis is listed as at least an 8-1 favorite over Lipinets, but Clayton expects Lipinets to legitimately test Ennis in their 12-round welterweight fight at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
VAN NUYS, Calif. — Sergey Lipinets wants all the smoke from fast-rising star Jaron Ennis. The former IBF super lightweight champion Lipinets (16-1-1, 12 KOs) will meet the Philly fighter Ennis (26-0, 24 KOs) in a 12-round Showtime main event April 10 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut with the intent to severely halt the ascension of one of boxing’s best prospects.
Custio Clayton made a name for himself among American boxing fans by testing Sergey Lipinets in Lipinets’ last fight. Canada’s Clayton, a late replacement for Kudratillo Abdukakhorov, nearly upset Lipinets in their 12-round fight for the IBF interim welterweight title October 24 in Uncasville, Connecticut. Clayton beat Lipinets, 115-113, according to judge Don Trella, but he settled for a majority draw because judges Glenn Feldman and Tom Schreck scored their encounter even, 114-114 apiece.
By Thomas Gerbasi - A lot of boxers say they were born to fight. Some of them are right. Rising welterweight star Jaron “Boots” Ennis definitely fits the latter category as the son of Derek “Bozy” Ennis Sr. and the brother of Derek “Pooh” Ennis and Farah Ennis....

Unlike lots of other welterweights, Sergey Lipinets didn’t shy away from an offer to fight Jaron Ennis. The undefeated Philadelphia native previously had difficulty finding an established 147-pound contender willing to face him. Lipinets, however, views his 12-round fight versus Ennis as a high-risk, high-reward opportunity that could move him back into position to fight for a world title.
