Sean McComb says that having the chance to compete in Dubai will make his vacant Commonwealth lightweight title fight with Gavin Gwynne even more special when the two men meet next week.
D4G Promotions in association with Round 10 Boxing Club and MTK Global have announced three events heading to Dubai in February, March and April. The star-studded cards will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV, and begin on Saturday 6 February with Lee McGregor challenging Karim Guerfi for his European bantamweight title, and Sean McComb facing Gavin Gwynne for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.
Sean McComb had to go deeper than ever before in order to obtain his latest win. The lack of experience at the 10-round level showed at times for the junior welterweight prospect in an otherwise clear-cut win over Siar Ozgul. Judge Victor Loughlin scored the contest 99-92, while Ian John Lewis and John Latham had it 97-93—all for McComb in the chief support bout Wednesday evening on ESPN+ and BT Sport live from BT Sport Studio in East London.
Sean McComb knows he has a tricky test against Siar Ozgul next week - but is determined to produce a spectacular performance there to pave the way for his highly-anticipated move into the lightweight division.
Sean McComb and Siar Ozgul have already shared plenty of rounds together sparring in the past - and the Belfast boxer is expecting a similar vibe when they go up against each other next month.
The undefeated super bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Rey Vargas (34-0, 22 KO’s), hopes to return to the ring in the near future, as the Mexican boxer has gone a year without a fight.
The events will be held behind closed doors at the LS-LIVE in Wakefield, and will be broadcast in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV. The first show takes place on Tuesday 11 August, as world title challenger Jono Carroll (18-1-1, 4 KOs) square offs with the always-entertaining Maxi Hughes (20-5-2, 4 KOs) at 133lbs.
Boxing remains temporarily halted, but fast-rising super lightweight ‘Sugar’ Sean McComb is keeping his full focus on things that he can control. The 27-year-old native of West Belfast is staying in shape during the lockdown, after he saw his scheduled showdown against former European lightweight champion Craig Evans on April 25 fall victim to the virus.
Sean McComb says he plans to move down to lightweight to chase titles after recoding the best win of his career, as the former Belfast amateur star forced Mauro Maximiliano Godoy to quit on his stool at the end of the sixth round at the Ulster Hall in Belfast on Saturday night.
