Former WBA Super Bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (34-2-2, 25 KOs) has been added to the Billy Joe Saunders vs. Demetrius Andrade undercard on October 20 in Boston.
The Matchroom USA promotion will take place at the city's 19,000 capacity TD Garden (home of the Boston Celtics) headlined by Saunders' fourth defence of his WBO Middleweight title against former 154lb champion Andrade. Irish starlet Katie Taylor will also appear on the bill defending her IBF and WBA Lightweight straps against Cindy Serrano.
All-action Hull lightweight Tommy Coyle is scheduled to make his American debut on the card as well.
For Quigg, now trained by Freddie Roach, the October 20 appearance will mark his second consecutive appearance in America after losing to WBO Featherweight champion Oscar Valdez back in March. Quigg, who lost a gruelling 12 round decision to the Mexican, lost out on trying to win the title after failing to make weight the day before for the fight at Carson's StubHub Center.
Quigg had suffered a foot injury during preparations for the Valdez fight forcing him to abandon certain aspects of his training which he says played a part in being nearly three pounds over the 126lb limit.
“I don’t regret taking the fight,” Quigg told http://boxingmonthly.com last week. “I still went in believing I was going to win. We changed the tactics of what we were going to do. It was more strength and toughness that I was relying on because I didn’t have the movement in my feet in the ring."
No opponent or fight distance has been revealed, as of yet, for what will be Quigg's 39th professional fight.
